TUTOR PROFILE: 
Liza Stedman Millinery was established in 1989 and specialises in handmade, one-off couture millinery. Liza trained with Stephen Jones in London and has won the National Millinery Award twice, exhibited at the National Gallery of Victoria, NGV Federation Square and Queensland Art Gallery. Collaborations with many of Australia's Fashion Designers, Myer, VRC and has judged Fashions on the Field for more than a decade. Liza has also established many teaching courses throughout her career, contributing to establishing the original curriculum for the TAFE & CAE Millinery Courses.


COURSE DETAILS: 
This workshop will consist of creating a unique handmade headpiece using parisisal straw as a base. Techniques used will include blocking, hand-stitching, working with wire and creating trims. Students to think about style and color so bring pictures that inspire you. Keep it simple. All materials and trimmings can be purchased on the day. This course has been specifically designed to introduce the basic traditional techniques of millinery and use of materials, to access and enjoy the art of millinery and the process of the handmade revolution - Be inspired!


OUTCOMES: 
To use your own creativity to hand-make a sculptural headpiece of quality. The techniques learnt are the basis of all millinery designs and are fundamental for a quality result. These can be applied equally to other materials and home-based projects.


LEVEL/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: 
This workshop is suitable for beginners through to intermediate students. Basic hand sewing skills are necessary.


DURATION: 
6.5 hours (plus 30min lunch break) 


TIMES/DATES: 
Saturday 7th October 2017 - 9.30am to 4.30pm 
(Please arrive 10 minutes early to ensure the class starts on time, or at least 20 minutes prior if you wish to purchase materials.)


STUDENT FEE: 
$185.00 
(Plus additional costs of materials used during the workshop, which can range between $50-$100 depending on the choice of materials used. All students will be offered 10% off all materials during the course of the workshop.)


VENUE: 
House of Adorn, Building 15 / 40 Ricketts Road, Mt Waverley, Victoria, Australia 3149. 
Free onsite parking is available. The closest train stations are Mt Waverley and Glen Waverley. From the train stations, it is recommended to catch a bus or taxi.


STUDENTS TO BRING: 
All of the materials listed below can be purchased at House of Adorn on the day of the workshop or students can bring along their own. You may wish to bring along your outfit and accessories if you want to make a headpiece to match your outfit/s.



  • Apron

  • Parisisal Capeline Hat Body

  • Petersham to match the Parisisal

  • Millinery Wire

  • Hat Elastics

  • Sewing Kit including; Scissors, Thimble, Dressmaking pins, Small bottle clear craft glue, Sewing needles, Sewing thread to match, Tape measure, Tailors Chalk

  • Trimmings to embellish your hat (e.g. lace, flowers, feathers etc)


There are limited cafes and restaurants nearby the venue so teachers/students may want to organise a pre-packed meal or snack (especially if attending weekend workshops). Refreshments including coffee and tea will be provided.

By registering and paying for these workshops, you are agreeing to the terms and conditions set out below regarding workshops conducted at House of Adorn.

Workshops are organised by House of Adorn so please contact House of Adorn directly for all workshop enquiries. Tutors are NOT to be contacted via any means regarding the workshops.


PAYMENT: 
We accept Credit Card, Paypal, Cash or Bank Transfer. Full payment must be received to secure your place in all workshops. Most workshops have limited numbers and places will be issued on a first come first serve basis (only once full payment has been received).


MINIMUM ATTENDEES:
Please note that to keep costs down, most classes require minimum of 5 registered students. If there are less than 5, we may cancel the workshop. If so, all registered students will be contacted and workshop fees will be fully reimbursed. 


CANCELLATION POLICY: 
If for any reason you need to cancel your attendance, please notify us immediately. The following fees will apply if you make a cancellation;


- more than 10 business days prior to the start of the workshops, no cancellation fee will apply and the full payment will be refunded.
- within 3-10 business days prior to the start of the workshops, a $20 cancellation fee will apply and the remaining payment will be refunded (unless a replacement can be found then the full payment will be refunded)
- within 48 hours prior to the start of the workshops, the full workshop fee will apply and NO refund will be provided (unless a replacement can be found then the full payment will be refunded).


If for any other reason House of Adorn cancels a workshop, all students will be fully reimbursed.

Any instructions, handouts and teaching materials provided prior or during the workshops are for the purposes of learning the skills and techniques required to achieve the outcome outlined in the workshop details are NOT to be copied, shared or replicated without prior consent from the Tutor/s and/or House of Adorn. Strictly no videos or photos are to be taken without the prior consent from the Tutor/s and House of Adorn.
