International award-winning milliner Catherine Ellen is the owner of The Essential Hat in Prahran East, Melbourne. Using Jinsin she won first prize at the French International Millinery Festival in July this year (2017) and also in 2015. The workshop presented here was also held in Belgium and England in March this year for over 20 European millinery students and was enormously successful and well received. Photos enclosed are samples of her other work using Jinsin for Spring Racing, weddings, religious festivals and other celebrations during the year.
After the workshop you will achieve a good understanding of the handling and properties of Jinsin including; using steam to sculpt Jinsin; the use of spring wire and joiners; making a bespoke edge; getting the fit right; and invisible hand-stitching with Jinsin. You should be able to take these skills and technical information and develop them into your own style.
Students will have the opportunity to make two different headpieces including a "Diorabella" (a Dior New Look inspired hat), and a Jinsin Headband (a wrapped turban inspired piece). From making these pieces, students will gain a lot of new skills and confidence when working with Jinsin.
This workshop is suitable for intermediates through to advance students. Basic hand sewing AND machine sewing skills are required.
